Highstead Launches Search for New Director
Highstead seeks an experienced and motivated individual to direct all programs and administrative activities in support of Highstead's conservation, ecological research, and outreach mission. Highstead is a non-profit organization founded in 1982 that employs six staff members at its 100-acre site housing superb facilities, extensive forests, wetlands, open grasslands and unique collections of native trees and shrubs. Major programs at Highstead include: Regional Conservation, Woodland and Wildlife Ecology, Landscapes and Plant Collections, and Public and Membership Outreach. Highstead is a growing organization that has recently expanded its staff, land base, facilities, endowment and membership.

Forest Ecology Interns arrive at Highstead
Luke Reese, University of Minnesota class of 2009 (left) and Dave Grunzel, Washington and Jefferson College, class of 2008 have arrived in Redding for a 12 week summer internship program. Projects they are assisting with include a forest compositional study of the town of Redding, a mountain laurel regeneration study at Highstead, and on-going deer and moose browsing research in Redding and at the Harvard Forest in north-central Massachusetts.

Highstead Breaks Ground on Addition to Headquarters
Activities are well underway in the expansion of the "Barn" headquarters at Highstead. The 1100 square foot addition will include space for additional offices, the herbarium and flexible work areas for student interns and visiting scholars. The staff expects to move into this expanded space by the end of spring.
